That’s our President. Always thinking ahead.

    Robert -

Not that I don’t disagree with this cartoon, but believe the issue cuts deeply both ways.

Since the Oil Industry is the keeper of “Gulf Jobs”, the cartoon should have a second noose leading to the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig on fire and sinking with the caption “Oil Industry Safety Issues”.

Since the start of the April 12th disaster and millions of gallons of oil leaked into the gulf, there has been no clear resolution on what caused the accident in the first place. “Speculation” is that BP and their partners got sloppy and safety took a back seat to speedy oil profits.

Believe the President is at a minimum being prudent in the current moratorium until the cause of the accident is determined and preventive measures can be executed to preclude another mega-disaster.

If the moratorium were not in place and another accident were to occur, I’m sure you and your fellow cartoonist would be leading the charge with another cartoon with the caption “Not Again”.

Bob, you’re right and there’s just no way to make a cartoon say all of those things, but I agree with all points. I would add that while the gulf jobs figure does look like an oil worker, I meant for it to represent all of the jobs in the Gulf (fishing, restaurants, tourism, etc.) So maybe I could’ve drawn him differently - but I can’t think how to do it right now.
