Oh for crying out loud…..I get offended when these folks are given a lifetime of monthly checks. I gather they’re not offended to accept them.

This cartoon is even more offensive than Andre Bauer’s remarks. Strays are offended at being compared to “poor uneducated folk on the public dole”? For shame.

Ditto what bifozz said! Just because the leeches are offended, doesn’t make it an inaccurate statement. How are poor, uneducated people on welfare for life *not* like stray animals?

Well, okay, except stray animals *could* be trained to be productive members of society, e.g., seeing-eye dogs and other service animals.

Carol- that you cannot see the humor in this cartoon means you’re wound up a bit tight. Lighten up! Either you agree with Bauer and don’t like the cartoon for (mildly) poking fun of his inartful comments or you took offense at the strays getting higher status than the poor people- of course, that’s where the humor lies. I don’t like having to explain the cartoon, but implicit in the joke is the notion that Andre doesn’t care if he offended the people on public assistance- he’s using this as a political ploy- and that maybe he cares more for strays.

Well, I thought it was funny. I printed out a copy, went upstairs and woke up Goober, our current puppy which we rescued from a shelter last year. After reading and showing him the copy he stretched up, pulled it out of my hand, and sat on it. There is little doubt that Goober understood. Perhaps the dogs are the only ones who know that South Carolina is going to the dogs.

Mr. Ariail - your perspective is so spot on, you deserve to be on the front page of every paper (above the fold)!!

Thanks, Fred. I’d settle for one newspaper and on the editorial page.

I wonder what all the SC State Employees on the “public dole” think of Bauer’s comments?!?

Well, as is said, things come in threes. First, we have our wandering governor and his nonsense. Then, Congressman Wilson calling the president out during a joint address to Congress and now, our home-grown Lt Governor insulting the working poor and stray animals. Maybe the spotlight of attention can be shed upon some other state for a while. Lord, give us some rest!
