This cartoon pretty much sums it all up. Although Obama promised that his plan would change nothing for those that already have or are provided health care, that is simply not the case. Here are just a few of the freedoms he plans to drastically change or remove.
1. Freedom to choose what’s in your plan
2. Freedom to be rewarded for healthy living, or pay your real costs
3. Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage
4. Freedom to keep your existing plan
5. Freedom to choose your doctors
The private health insurance companies must go. They spend a lot of time and money figuring out whom to refuse to sell policies and finding ways to deny payment to their policyholders. They would be in breach of fiduciary duty to their shareholders if they did not. All that effort contributes nothing to our national health, at great cost to the country - in two ways: the staff dedicated to those tasks cost a lot, and the public must spend time jumping through hoops trying to get medical treatment. There is no possible reform that would fix this, short of replacing private insurance with public insurance.
Why should we believe a public health insurance plan would be any less of a money pit than medicare or social security? The government is responsible for as much fraud, waste and abuse as any private sector corporation.
